”Spirituality and the Twelve Steps, Breathing Under Water" -Richard Rohr

In April 2015 we had fifteen people journey with us as we explored Rohr’s book and his understanding that the Twelve Steps of the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) program is one of America's most significant and authentic contributions to the history of spirituality. Rohr explains:

“We are all addicted in some way. When we learn to identify our addiction, embrace our brokenness, and surrender to God, we begin to bring healing to ourselves and our world. The gospel principles in the Twelve Steps can free anyone from any addictionfrom an obvious dependence on alcohol or drugs to the more common but less visible addiction that we all have to sin.”

This program offers encouragement and inspiration to survive the tidal wave of compulsive behavior and addiction. We share and explore Rohr’s four assumptions about addictions:

  • We are all addicts.
  • "Stinking thinking" is the universal addiction.
  •  All societies are addicted and create deep codependency on them.
  •  Some form of alternative consciousness (a contemplative practice) is the only freedom         from the addicted self and from cultural lies.

We had a heart felt group of sojourners, all willing to explore their own stinking thinking. We share on the information read and in spiritual rituals and exercises to expand our journey.

We are pleased to be offering this program again beginning Feb 10, 2016.

All persons are welcome to this committed group. You do not need to be attending a 12 step program. Group size will be limited to 16.
